While primarily a ready mix concrete supplier, Shelby Materials offers a variety of concrete surface products to our customers. These include concrete curing compounds, concrete sealing compounds, penetrating waterproofs.

Curing Compounds

All concrete must be cured to achieve proper durability. Curing is very critical for driveways and concrete poured in the winter. Cold weather retards the strength gain of concrete which makes it more susceptible to freeze-thaw stress.

Another danger to driveways is road salt. Road salt arrives at your driveway via your automobile. Salt attracts water and magnifies the stresses of freeze-thaw.

We sell a variety of curing compounds for different applications.

Concrete Sealing Compounds

Sealers are like curing compounds in that they form an acrylic film over the concrete. They need to be applied properly or the appearance of the concrete may be affected.

These products have a higher solids content and are normally used in exposed aggregate applications, stamped concrete, or on colored concrete.

Sealing compounds are not the best choice for protecting concrete from salt and winter precipitation. They may darken concrete to which they are applied.

Penetrating Waterproofs

These products provide the best protection for concrete exposed to winter precipitation. They are invisible in place and reside below the concrete surface so they cannot be scuffed away. Penetrating waterproofs allow for vapor movement without losing the liquid waterproofing quality.

These products should be applied to all driveways to reduce the potential for pop-outs and surface spalling.
