Special Mixes contain additional materials added to our concrete that alter or enhance the properties of the concrete.  These are necessary for certain concrete jobs or applications. We utilize the latest technical advances in our special mixes.  Some examples of special mixes are freeze-resistant concrete, rapid curing concrete, high early strength concrete, and flowing concrete.

The following mixed requires the full cooperation of the contractor who is required to obey specific rules for this product to perform correctly.

Freeze Resistant Concrete

This mixture is designed for use in cold weather (between 20º and 40º.) Normal concrete curing and hardening is highly dependent upon temperature.  Below 40º, strength-gain is drastically slowed. With the use of our freeze resistant concrete, the need for blanket protection down to 20º is eliminated, the concrete gains strength faster than normal concrete in the same weather, and the concrete resists spalling during the first winter.

High Early Strength Concrete

Some projects require very rapid curing. When roads are paved or repaired, everyone concerned wants the project open to traffic as soon as possible. Our rapid curing concrete accelerates the curing process, yielding fully cured concrete sooner than our standard mixes.

Reduced Shrinkage Concrete

As normal concrete cures and ages, cracks develop naturally. Some projects require a reduced cracking surface.  Reduced shrinkage or low-shrink concrete allows for that feature. With this mix design, the potential for cracking is greatly reduced.

Flowing Concrete

Some projects require highly flowable concrete. With normal concrete, this flow is increased with the addition of extra water, which weakens the strength of the concrete. Instead of water, chemical admixtures are added to the concrete resulting in concrete that is self consolidating without the strength loss of added water.
