Flowable fill is a self contracting sand, cement, and fly ash mixture that will completely fill a void. Typically it is designed as a low strength, flowable material requiring no subsequent vibration or tamping to achieve consolidation. With Flowable Fill, there is no settlement. The material self-compacts as it is placed. This saves money and time by eliminating labor and testing.

Flowable fill is extremely useful for road repair. In normal repair, backfill can settle over the following months, causing the top layer of asphalt to settle. The result is a bump in the road, requiring further repair. Flowable fill will not settle, and the patch remains level with the road surface. The city of Louisville, KY requires flowable fill in all road repair work. Before this requirement, Louisville's success rate for road repairs was 80%. Now, the success rate is over 99%.

Other uses for flowable fill include, backfilling foundation walls, road cuts, pool bases, sub-footers, temporary base course for construction, crawl space surfaces, pipe bedding, underground tank filling, bridge abutments, filling unused pipe or tanks, and blocking the flow of ground springs in sub-footers.
