Alkaline Burns

Cement is very alkaline and fresh concrete has a pH of between 12 and 15. Alkaline burns are just as dangerous as acid burns. Some people who have exposed their skin to fresh concrete have suffered third degree burns. Most people are not that sensitive to this problem, though care should be taken not to expose skin to fresh concrete. Proper precautions include eye protection, waterproof gloves, rubber boots, long pants, and knee pads.
