Floor Flatness

Years ago the only language for measuring the usefulness of a floor was the eighth inch in 10 standard. This was done with a straight edge that was laid on the floor. There could be no voids under the straight edge that was laid on the floor. Allan Face developed the ff/fl measuring system. This is measured with a calibrated machine that prints a profile of the floor it traverses. With this instrument, finishers have been able to improve their skills.
The previous measurement would be a 25 in the modern method. Today, with proprietary mixes, contractors are delivering numbers above 60 without special handling. Floor flatness is very important to owners as it improves the speed and safety of their operations.
